Dear Legislator, The time is now for passing expanded gambling and putting video lottery terminals (VLTs) or slot machines at Kentucky's racetracks. Surrounding states with VLTs and "racinos" such as Pennsylvania, Louisiana, West Virginia, Indiana and now Ohio are luring mares and stallions out of Kentucky at an alarming rate. The impact of bolstered breeders' incentives and healthy purses in surrounding states is shocking when considering the lack of quality bloodstock these states board. By expanding gambling and installing VLTs at Kentucky's racetracks, Kentucky could devastate states with subpar breeding operations with its world class highest quality breeding stock. Without serious change, mares and stallions will continue to leave the state of Kentucky in the same way Standardbred mares and stallions did over the past two decades. With a $4 billion impact, the loss or crippling of Kentucky's #1 agricultural and signature industry will cost thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of tax revenue the state enjoys annually. I support Kentucky's #1 industry and moving Kentucky forward for the good of all Kentuckians. Please listen to me and the majority of Kentuckians by supporting expanded gambling and Kentucky VLTs. Anything less than your full support will be enough cause for me to support your opponent when you come up for re-election. Sincerely,
